The World Health Organization has granted Emergency Use Listing to Cepheid’s Xpert Hemorrhagic Fever Panel to support the response to the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The test detects Ebola viruses (including Bundibugyo, not differentiated), as well as Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, Marburg and Lassa viruses, with results in about an hour. It runs on GeneXpert Dx systems, which Cepheid notes are already widely installed across Africa, supporting decentralised testing in affected regions.
